What is the Koltanowski-Phoenix Attack?

The Koltanowski-Phoenix Attack is a new idea in the Colle-Koltanoski chess opening system, championed by Colle System writer David Rudel. After the standard opening sequence 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 d5 3.e3 e6 4.Nbd2 c5 5.c3 Nc6 6.Bd3 Bd6 (or Be7) 7.0-0 0-0 8.dxc5 Bxc5, White responds  9.b4! (Shown at right)

Though it is not obvious, the b-pawn lunge has significant importance because the Bishop on c5 turns out to be the often unrecognized source of White's troubles in the typical
